This policy explains how Finintel uses cookies and similar technologies. We use the minimum needed to make the product work, plus privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies let a site remember things like your login session, preferences, or that you've been there before. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and IndexedDB, which work like cookies but are stored differently in the browser. In this policy, "cookies" refers to all of these.
2. Our cookie principles
- Minimum. We use the smallest set of cookies needed to operate the service.
- No advertising cookies. No Google Ads, no Meta Pixel, no advertising network tags.
- No cross-site tracking. We don't follow you around the internet.
- Privacy-respecting analytics. Aggregated, anonymised, no individual profiling.
- Your choice. Optional cookies are off by default until you consent.
3. Cookies we use
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the service to function. They cannot be disabled if you want to use Finintel.
| Name / Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you logged in across pages of Finintel. | Session (deleted when you close the browser) |
| Authentication token | Verifies your identity to our servers without asking for your password on every action. | Up to 30 days, refreshed on activity |
| CSRF token | Prevents a class of security attack where another site tries to act on your behalf. | Session |
| Cookie consent record | Remembers which optional cookies you have accepted or declined. | 12 months |
Functional cookies
These cookies remember your preferences so the product feels consistent across visits. Off by default; turned on when you set a preference.
| Name / Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Theme preference | Remembers whether you've chosen light or dark mode. | 12 months |
| Locale / currency | Remembers your country and preferred currency for in-app pricing. | 12 months |
| Onboarding state | Remembers which onboarding steps you've completed. | 30 days |
Analytics cookies
We use a privacy-respecting analytics provider (no individual user profiling, no IP storage, no cross-site identification). These are optional. You can decline them via the cookie banner without affecting your ability to use Finintel.
| Name / Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregated page-view counter | Helps us understand which pages and features are used most, to prioritise improvements. | Session or up to 30 days |
| Error logging tag | Captures anonymised error events so we can fix bugs you encounter. | Session |
What we do not use
- No advertising cookies (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, X/Twitter Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, etc.)
- No cross-site tracking pixels
- No fingerprinting libraries
- No data broker integrations
- No third-party "social sharing" widgets that track you (we use plain links instead)
4. Third-party cookies via service providers
Some essential service providers may set their own cookies as part of operating the service. These are limited to:
- Hosting (Vercel): may set short-lived cookies for routing, caching, and DDoS protection.
- Database / auth (Supabase): sets authentication-related cookies needed to log you in.
- Payments (merchant of record): when you visit the checkout page, our payments partner sets its own cookies for fraud prevention and transaction completion. These are governed by the partner's own cookie policy.
None of these third parties use cookies set on Finintel for advertising or cross-site tracking related to our service.
5. Affiliate link tracking
When you click an affiliate link inside Finintel and are redirected to a partner site, the partner may set their own cookies to credit Finintel for the referral. These cookies are set on the partner's domain, not on finintel.app, and are governed by the partner's own privacy and cookie policies.
Finintel itself does not set tracking cookies for affiliate purposes. See our Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture.
6. Managing cookies
Via the cookie banner
The first time you visit finintel.app, you see a cookie banner that lets you accept or decline optional cookies (functional, analytics). Strictly necessary cookies are always on. You can change your choices at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the footer.
Via your browser
You can clear or block cookies via your browser settings. Each browser is different — here are direct guides:
Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in or using core Finintel features.
7. Do Not Track
Finintel honours the "Do Not Track" (DNT) and "Global Privacy Control" (GPC) signals where they are present in your browser. When detected, optional analytics cookies are not loaded.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our cookie usage changes — for example, when we add or remove a service provider. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged in-app or by email.
